2016 Activities:
2016 was the Corporation’s first year in existence. The Corporation successfully fulfilled its mission to “provide organized outdoor recreation and special events, such as the Suffolk County Marathon.” The Board of Directors worked with contractors in order to coordinate a successful Suffolk County Marathon event, which took place on October 30, 2016. The Marathon event attracted sponsorships from a plethora of local businesses, donations from those who supported the cause, and thousands of runners who participated in the event. The Marathon event also fulfilled part of the Corporation’s mission to attract an increased population into Suffolk County to participate in recreation events, with many runners and participants being from outside Suffolk County. The Marathon event also showcased some of Suffolk County’s downtowns and beautiful parks and open spaces, achieving another goal set forth in the mission statement of the Corporation.
The revenues from the Marathon have been be distributed to various veterans organizations across Suffolk County, in fulfillment of a performance goal of the Corporation to “continue to aid, assist, cooperate, and co-sponsor organizations and groups including, but not limited to, veterans organizations.”
